About Me: I'm Emily, a birth photographer, and baby snuggler aka: newborn and maternity photographer! I am originally from Stafford, VA and grew up the youngest of 7 children; I currently live in Gainesville, VA with my extremely handsome husband (I'm not biased at all). My parents have been married for 46 years and have one of the best love stories I've heard to date - maybe I will save that for a blog post! When I am not capturing milestones for my clients, I am traveling with my husband Mark, spending time with our favorite nieces and nephews and our friends, and although that sounds cliche-there is nothing I enjoy more than some QT with those people. Baskin Robbins mint chocolate chip ice cream is my number one guilty pleasure, next to steak and potatoes or sushi and if you offer me a donut (or a dozen), I won't say no.
About my photography business: My journey to becoming a photographer began after I took my first photojournalism class in high school I knew that I wanted to be a photographer "when I grew up." Being type A I decided I needed to have more of a plan - attend college and get a degree! I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) located in Richmond, VA, earning a Bachelor's degree in Early Elementary Education and a Masters in Teaching. My affinity for photography grew by leaps and bounds in college as I often found myself taking pictures for family members or friends who needed their memories captured. As fate would have it, I graduated mid-school-year, giving me time to get my business off the ground before obtaining a full-time teaching position. I was lucky enough to spend my time teaching 30 gifted 4th graders, and ultimately I made the decision to pursue my dream of being a full-time photographer in June 2014 after shooting my first birth just a month prior. I have worked with nearly 100 families in my time as a photographer documenting the precious moments when their littles ones enter the world, those first few weeks at home with their newborn baby, and the final weeks as their anticipation of their little ones arrival is at its all-time peak! I consider myself truly blessed to be invited to capture some of the most intimate and life-changing moments in my clients lives. The best part of that is building genuine relationships with each of the families I get to work with, and being able to see their children grow up as the value of the moments I have captured grows with them!
I thoroughly enjoy getting to know new people, and love to laugh- a lot! So you can expect that our time together will fly by with ease. I am not the photographer that looks to capture the perfect picture, just the perfect picture of your birth story, your family, and your newest little ones! Now that you've gotten to know me, you can learn a little bit more by watching my promotional video, or head over to my contact page and shoot me an e-mail so we can get together over ice-cream and I can get to know you!
